If you could only stop one place in SLC, it should be @theroseestb . I savored every bite of this beautiful meal ☕️

A soft boiled turmeric pickled egg on top of carrot butter, pickled onions, feta, chive, olive oil, and a thick toasted slice of five-seed bread = The Weekender Tartine. So hipster that they don’t even call it toast. I know you didn’t overlook at that gorgeous Marigold Golden Milk adorned with a dried flower. So. Darn. Good. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not pictured: The smashed avocado tartine, lemon poppy cake with a peach glaze, and delightful Earl Grey tea.
Any fellow geography nerds out there?

The three Cayman Islands are actually peaks of the Cayman Ridge, an underwater mountain range in the Caribbean Sea. The water off the island becomes deep quickly because there is a complex tectonic zone called the Cayman Trench between the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. The trench is over 25,000 feet deep and forms part of the boundary between the North American and Caribbean tectonic plates. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

For any secret admirers out there, I’m making Valentine’s day easy for you: Ceviche and Piña Coladas are the way to my heart 💛 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Starfish Point 🌟 7/7
Part of being a geography nerd for me is understanding where my family came from. Over Christmas break my Dad took me to Zebley’s Corner which sits on the boarder of Pennsylvania and Delaware. Later that evening we had dinner with some of my relatives on the Zebley side that I have seen only a couple times in my life. One of the special moments of the evening was when my dad’s aunt and cousin who are family historians of sorts started to tell stories and share details of our family lineage. I learned that my great grandfather was born in the house that sits on the PA/DE border, that my great grandmother taught in a one room school house nearby, and that they got married at 16 and didn’t tell their parents! That was until her mother found her ring hidden under the mattress... It was fun to hear the memories and stories about my relatives that are no longer with us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Beyond oral history, my mom invested a lot of time building out our family tree through Ancestry.com in the last year. She uncovered lineage dating back to the 1500s! I was unsurprised to learn my DNA is 50% British, 21% German, with the remaining percentage made up of other European states. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Has anyone else been focused on their family history?
In the 364 days 2018 has given to me so far, I have been exposed to parts of the world, people, music, and food unknown to me before. Human instinct makes me want to hold on to 2018 and not let it go of all the goodness it has given me. However, I have faith that the next 365 days will provide more opportunities for growth, laughter, empathy, and love. Bring it on 2019.
